Tricks and tips to get the perfect Havelock vacation property experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • In the Havelock area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Havelock area travel guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to choose the best vacation home in the Havelock area:

  • Choose vacation week and max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Dune Alright, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your group.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

During your stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to drive new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
