Tricks and tips to get the very best rental experience:
Getting the best value:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to select the best rental home in the Havelock area:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. BRAND NEW!! The Emerald Hideaway. Located in the heart of Emerald Isle has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- If there's a particular Havelock attraction you simply love, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to propel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
