Strategies for getting the best Havelock vacation home experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Summer is high season in the Havelock area. To get the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.
Choosing and booking your prefectrental home:
- To start, have your family decide on dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. HOT DEAL! CAN'T STAY A WEEK, 3 NITE'S COZY COTTAGE! SHORT WALK TO BEACH! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation group.
- If there's a particular Havelock beach you are crazy about, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
