Vacation rental tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Havelock area visitors guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking yourrental home:
- Start by selecting your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Dog-friendly home with ocean\/sound views and private beach path has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.

- To make certain that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
