Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:

How to get the best value:

  • In the Havelock area, The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Make a plan and choose the rightrental home:

  • Start by selecting the best vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Dog-Friendly Third-Row Beach Duplex with Free WiFi - a Short Walk from the Beach has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is suitable for your family.
  • If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
