Tips to get the best vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are high season in Emerald Isle. Booking your Havelock vacation home in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- In the Havelock area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Selecting the perfect vacation rental in the Havelock area:
- Choose vacation week and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 'East of the Sun' Beachside Apartment w\/ Deck! has 4 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what is best for your vacation group.
- If there's an individual Havelock attraction you simply love, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
Additional considerations:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
