Vacation rental booking tips:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in Atlantic Beach. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Havelock vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Havelock visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your family agree to vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. 2nd-Floor Oceanfront Condo w\/Shared Pool, Ocean Views + Free WiFi & Wet Bar has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If they are not listed, call the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Additional considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
