Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation property experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Book your Havelock rental in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies supply Havelock area visitor guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting and booking yourrental home:
- Choose your vacation week and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Fantastic Ocean Front Cottage with Private Swimming Pool right on the Beach! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of issues.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
