Strategies for getting the perfect rental experience:
When to reserve a Havelock rental & When to go:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the largest vacation home within budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- In the Havelock area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to pick the best vacation home:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Maggie's Place, Oceanside House, in Emerald Isle NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
