Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation property experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • In the Havelock area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • To book the largest rental within budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Havelock attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Havelock visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select vacation week and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Bright, cheery, well appointed 3BR, 3.5B Townhome has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If not, email the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

More tips for your stay:

  • We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to stimulate more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
