Strategies to get the perfect Havelock rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Reserve your Havelock vacation home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing the perfect rental home:
- First and foremost, have your family choose a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Mermaid Cottage in Beau Coast Neighborhood Beaufort, NC has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. If not, call the host before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or could be applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Tips for your stay:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- To make certain that damages aren't linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
