Our top Emerald Isle rental property booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental value:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- To find the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Havelock attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Modern 5BR Ocean Front Home w\/ Pool! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
More tips for your visit:
- Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many concerns.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
