Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Havelock area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by selecting a vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Night N Gale has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before booking the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Contact the property manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to propel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
