Emerald Isle rental home booking tips:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Emerald Isle. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by selecting a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Oceanview, close to beach, pool, fire pit, dog friendly with no extra fee! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. If not, email the property management company before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- During check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
