Tips for getting the perfect Havelock vacation property experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Havelock area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.
How to pick the perfect rental home in the Havelock area:
- Start by having your group choose the best dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Starfish DOG-FRiENDLY in the Historic District has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before booking the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
Know before you go:
- Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
