Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Havelock area. To get the best value, change your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Havelock area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- First and foremost, have your family select the best dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Village West #20, Oceanside Townhouse in Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. Otherwise, email the host before booking the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine which bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
