Tips to get the best rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- In the Havelock area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies supply Havelock area visitors guide magazines that include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the best rental home:
- First and foremost, have your family choose a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. WELCOME TO PARADISE!! Beautiful oceanfront 3 BR Townhome with amazing views! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
