Our top Vacation rental booking tips:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking your Havelock vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by selecting trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Large pool & just steps to the largest\/least populated beach on Emerald Isle! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you book your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is best for your trip.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
During your stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to compel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
