Getting the best vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Havelock area. Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning, picking, and booking your Havelock vacation home:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Upstairs portion of beautiful 2nd-row duplex with ocean view, central AC, & WiFi has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is best for your vacation.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
- If there's a specific Havelock attraction you crave, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More tips for your visit:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the host immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
