How to book the best rental home experience:
Get the best value:
- Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have discounts for local tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- First and foremost, have your group decide on dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Spacious sound view home. Perfect retreat for families to home school and relax has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation group.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the host immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
