Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
When to go & When to reserve a Havelock rental home:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Atlantic Beach. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.
How to choose the best rental home in Atlantic Beach:
- Start by having your group select the best dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Spacious sound view home. Perfect retreat for families to home school and relax has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If not, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation family.
- If there's an individual Havelock destination you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a great stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
