Tips to get the best Havelock rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best value, shift your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Filter your search:
- First, have your group agree to dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. A Wave From it All, Oceanfront Duplex in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. If not, contact the host before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your family.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Havelock destination you long to visit, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the host right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to drive more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
