Tips for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:
When to reserve a Havelock rental & When to go:
- June, July, and August are high season in Indian Beach. To get the best value, change your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning and choosing yourvacation home:
- Begin by choosing potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Beautiful oceanfront view has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
