Tricks and tips to get the very best rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summer months are high season in Emerald Isle. To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Havelock area travel guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the perfect vacation home:
- To start, have your group commit to a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Carolina, Oceanside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 7 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
- If there's a particular Havelock attraction you long to visit, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
