Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
When to book a Havelock rental & When to go:
- To find the most suitable rental within budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.
Planning and choosing the perfect Havelock rental home:
- Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Chance Encounter, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
- At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
