Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Summer months are high season in the Havelock area. To find the best value, try changing your family's Havelock vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
How to select the perfect rental in the Havelock area:
- To start, have your group commit to vacation dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. AfterDune Shade at Emerald Isle has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If not, contact the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
During your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the host right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
