Our top Vacation rental tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Havelock area. Book your Havelock vacation home in Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Havelock area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting and booking the perfectvacation home:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Lorelei West, Oceanfront Duplex in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property manager before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
During your stay:
- Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
