Tips to get the perfect Emerald Isle vacation property experience:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Havelock area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Begin by choosing your trip dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Newly remodeled &100 steps to the beach access. Very clean and close to beach. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to determine which bed configuration is best for your group.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Additional considerations:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
