Getting the best vacation rental experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- In the Havelock area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- First, have your group commit to trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Coastal SeaClusion Vacation Rental is located in Down East, Carteret County, NC has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Contact the host right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
