How to find the best vacation property experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the largest rental home within your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to choose and book the right Havelock rental:
- Select vacation week and budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Newly Remodeled Charming Beach Cottage with Private Pool in Historic Salter Path has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Know before you go:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- During check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
