Our top Vacation rental home tips:
How to get the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Havelock restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to vacation dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Otter Banks Retreat- Sound Front Home in Beaufort, NC has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you reserve your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your group.
- If there's a certain Havelock attraction you simply love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
More considerations:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
- During arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
