Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:
Finding the best value:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Havelock area. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Filter your search:
- First, have your group select trip dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Redecorated, Oceanfront, Corner Condo with Balcony & Shared Hot Tub\/Pools has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible online. If not, email the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
More considerations for your visit:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
