Booking the best rental home experience:
When to reserve a Havelock rental & When to go:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the best rental within budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local tours and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking your prefectvacation home:
- To start, have your family agree to a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Shamrock, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More tips for your visit:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
