Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Emerald Isle rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Havelock area. To get the largest rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Havelock area travel guides which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to select the perfect vacation home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Spectacular Sound\/Ocean View! Large Saline Pool, Elevator, Golf Cart has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is suitable for your group.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Additional considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many issues.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Upon arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
