How to get the best vacation home experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to pick the best vacation rental:
- First and foremost, have your family select a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Spectacular Sound\/Ocean View! Large Saline Pool, Elevator, Golf Cart has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Have a great stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many concerns.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- To make sure no damages are linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the property manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
