Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the best vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Choosing and booking the bestrental:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. HOT SUMMER DEALS FOR MAY & JUNE ON THIS GORGEOUS OCEAN FRONT CONDO! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is optimal for your trip.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
