Our top Vacation rental home tips:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, try shifting your family's Havelock vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Make a plan and pick your prefectvacation home:

  • Select vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Speight House, Soundfront House in Historical Beaufort, NC! has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

More tips for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
