Strategies to get the best rental experience:
Getting the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Emerald Isle. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Havelock vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning, selecting, and booking a perfect Havelock vacation home:
- Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Wine Down: 4BR, 3.5BA, Almost Oceanfront, Private Pool, Game Room! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is best for your trip.
- If there's a particular Havelock beach you simply love, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of concerns.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
