Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To book the best rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Havelock restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Some owners offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Havelock area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. 3rd-Floor Condo Overlooking Courtyard w\/Beach Views, WiFi, Shared Pools\/Hot Tub has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before reserving the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the rental manager right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to propel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
