Tricks and tips to get the perfect Emerald Isle rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer is high season in the Havelock area. To get the best value, change your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Havelock area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Filter your search:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. FALL GETAWAY!! Beat the heat. And the crowds! Ocean view from 3rd floor deck. has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property management company before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
Have a great stay:
- Add the owner's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make certain that damages aren't linked to your stay, note any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to drive future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
