Tips and Tricks for getting the best rental home experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in Atlantic Beach. To find the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • In the Havelock area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking the rightvacation home:

  • Start by selecting the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. A Place At The Beach Unit 168 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property owner before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or could be applied to your contract.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
