named Atlantic Beach as its top beach to visit in North Carolina in 2015
Atlantic Beach is the oldest of five resort towns along the Bogue Banks of North Carolina's coast. Known as the "Crystal Coast", it's the kind of place that remains in your memory throughout the year as a peaceful vacation getaway. Walk down the boardwalk from your villa to the white, sandy beach where you can rent a chair and umbrella for the day.
Once you've soaked in the sun and splashed in the sea, wash the salt and sand away and head into the surrounding communities for delightfully fresh local seafood. Whether you like to swim, bask in the sun, sail or fish, Atlantic Beach is the ideal spot for a family trip, a romantic escape, or a beach bum's ideal vacation.
No family pets allowed
Things to Do
North Carolina Aquarium
Atlantic Beach Aquarium
Everyone will appreciate this educational and fascinating exhibit of marine life. The aquarium has presentations, videos, live animals and "behind the scenes" tours for all visitors. Special trips such as beginning snorkeling and cruises through North Carolina's coastal waters, are also offered.
Ocracoke
If you are a little more adventurous, you might choose to take a long day trip to Ocracoke, which lies about 3 1/2 hours away from Atlantic Beach. The excursion is well worth the drive and 2 1/2 hour ferry ride.
Emerald Isle
This community hosts the Emerald Isle Beach Music Festival and has one of the biggest amusement parks on the island (20-min. drive).
Check out Emeralds Isle's St. Patrick's Day Festival.
Morehead City
Morehead City supports an amazing sport fishing industry and is the location of events like the North Carolina Seafood Festival and The Big Rock Blue Marlin Fishing Tournament. Morehead City also has stores and plenty of seafood eateries.
North Carolina Maritime Museum
The North Carolina Maritime Museum traces the history of the relationship between the people of coastal North Carolina and the Atlantic Ocean. The museum covers a wide variety of topics, from the once thriving whaling industry to the different types of ships and boats used throughout the decades.
Fort Macon State Park
Historic Fort Macon is 385 acres of forest, dunes and beach and is home to a famed Civil War fortress. Visitors are complimentary to roam this old fort or to take one of the many tours. Fort Macon State Park is the most visited park in North Carolina and is an attraction not to be missed by Civil War buffs.
The Wild Shackleford Ponies -
One group of these wild horses roams freely on Shackleford Banks, near Cape Lookout (see Coastal Guide Map). This barrier island serves to isolate them, as it has for hundreds of years. The island and its 100+ wild horses, also called the Shackleford ponies for their modest stature, are under the protection of the National Park Service, but visitors may come to watch and photograph these horses. Shackleford Banks is accessed from Beaufort and Harker's Island by Park Service approved private passenger ferries, or by boat.
About the Area
Located in Atlantic Beach, this condo is near the beach. North Carolina Maritime Museum and Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center are cultural highlights, and travelers looking to shop may want to visit Coral Bay Shopping Center and Morehead Plaza Shopping Center. Traveling with kids? Consider North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores and Professor Hacker's Lost Treasure Golf and Raceway. Jet skiing, kayaking, and scuba diving offer great chances to get out on the surrounding water, or you can seek out an adventure with cycling nearby.

Strategies to get the best Havelock rental home experience:
How to get the best value:
- Booking your vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to select the perfect rental home in the Havelock area:
- Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Beach Get Away_1stFloor_Max6_WiFi has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your invoice.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to drive more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
