Strategies to get the perfect Havelock vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Havelock area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many management companies supply Havelock area visitor guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Select vacation week and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Updated Guest House in Beaufort Historic District--Walkable to Front Street! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before reserving the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
