Rental home booking tips and tricks:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, shift your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to choose the best rental:

  • First, have your group agree to date ranges and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Beautiful Large Townhome Steps to the Beach has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property management company before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your family.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.

Have a great stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the rental manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to drive more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
