Rental property booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to your budget:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Emerald Isle. Reserve your Havelock vacation in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, management companies supply Havelock area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and choose your prefectrental:
- Choose vacation dates and max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Bright Blue Willow, Soundside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If not, email the host before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's a specific Havelock attraction you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
Tips to have a wonderful stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Call the host immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
