Tips to get the best rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To book the best rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Havelock attractions and restaurants.
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Finding the perfect rental:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Charming 3-bedroom house located in the heart of downtown Salter Path has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- If there's a particular Havelock attraction you love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
