Booking the best vacation rental experience:
Get the best rental value:
- To find the largest rental home within your budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Begin by choosing vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Completely Renovated, Oceanfront Condo with WiFi, HDTVs & Shared Pools\/Hot Tub has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Know before you go:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
