Tips and Tricks to get the best rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Book your Havelock vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by selecting vacation dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Fantastic soundfront home with Inground Pool!! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the host immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
