Tips to get the optimal Havelock vacation home experience:
When to book a Havelock rental home & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Pine Knoll Shores. To get the best vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Havelock restaurants and activities.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Havelock area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.
Planning and choosing a perfectvacation home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Multi-level, oceanfront condo with WiFi, W\/D, & community pool\/tennis courts has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is right for your vacation group.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
