Strategies for getting the best Emerald Isle vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer months are high season in the Havelock area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Havelock area visitor guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- First, have your group decide on a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Emerald Isle Condo w\/ Direct Access to Ocean! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a particular Havelock beach you are enamored with, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
Additional considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
