Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
When to book a Havelock rental home & When to go:
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the best rental home within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Havelock restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Choosing and booking yourvacation home:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Second row, easy beach access, views and a pool has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your family.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs applied to your agreement.
Additional considerations:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
