How to get the best vacation rental experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by having your group select trip dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Oceanfront, 1st-Floor Condo with WiFi, Balcony & Shared Pools\/Hot Tub\/Putt-Putt has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
